ABOUT
US
We are a queer Black feminist grassroots think tank dedicated to advancing reproductive justice and dismantling carceral systems. Operating throughout the U.S. South — in communities shaped by gentrification, displacement, and systemic inequities—we serve as a powerful hub for transformative change.
Guided by the socioecological model, we address challenges at every level—from personal empowerment to systemic advocacy.
Through bold public education campaigns, holistic support initiatives, and unapologetic policy work, we foster collective liberation and build sustainable futures. At the heart of our work is an unwavering commitment to affirm the dignity, humanity, and self-determination of our community. We are not just imagining a just world—we are building it, brick by brick.
Our mission is to dismantle regimes of oppression that impact Black women, girls, femmes, gender-expansive folx, and their systems of care through Human Rights advocacy.
About Our Founder:
Akayla Galloway is a visionary legal and policy scholar, community organizer, and advocate whose work redefines the fight for liberation through a queer Black feminist lens. As the founder of the SJC, they are at the forefront of dismantling intersecting systems of oppression that marginalize Black women, girls, femmes, and gender-expansive individuals.
Grounded in the enduring legacy of Diasporic resistance, Akayla is a powerful voice for transformative advocacy, using reproductive justice as a pathway to collective liberation. Their work challenges systemic inequities, uplifts community power, and reimagines a world where dignity, self-determination, and justice are the foundation for all.
