The Social Justice Center Presents Healing Through Art (Some S#!t Just Needs to be Free)
These are a series of events that allow artists to come together and hold space with other creatives and community members. Restorative Justice is defined by The Social Justice Center as justice that seeks to address the harms that community members have faced and provide space for a community member to heal. As a community, we have faced many blows over the past couple of years, an ongoing pandemic, oppressive legislation, and what seems to be never-ending community violence. This event exists to hold space for us for one another and engage in a number of healing experiences, from yoga and meditation to painting workshops and open mics.
By curating spaces and listening to the communities we serve, we know what spaces are needed, and what is required to sustain the vitality of folx committed to movement building, freedom fighting, and creativity.
The Social Justice Center (SJC) creates safe and equitable spaces for people to engage in discourse around the issues that we face as people living in a society that seemingly oppresses us at every turn. We are committed to having important conversations through an intersectional lens. By engaging community members, artists, and other organizations we are collaborating to cultivate the change that we want to see in our communities. By taking the time to develop events for community members and artists we are doing our part to invest in the resilience of the movement and culture. There are many areas for collaboration and building connections across local businesses, artists, collectives, and other organizations.
The SJC understands the need for art as a healing mechanism and has the connection with local businesses and artists to pull these events off. As visionaries engaged in this work, we know that healing our communities should be a priority in securing justice for all. Arts and culture have always been a part of obtaining justice and conveying messages that may be deeper than words alone could describe. Art unites communities, and The Social Justice Center exists to bring communities together.
