Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is any act of violence or oppression that one experiences because of their actual or perceived gender identity or due to their gender expression. In talking about GBV we talk extensively about women and girls, but we often forget about the expansiveness of gender. Failure to include trans, intersex, non-binary and gender-expansive folx in conversations surrounding GBV leaves the data surrounding GBV inaccurate and only serves to commit further harm. The recording of accurate data is needed and has crucial implications for the progress toward eliminating gender oppression and cementing fundamental human rights for us all.
